Italy school crucifixes 'barred'
The European Court of Human Rights has ruled against the use of crucifixes in classrooms in Italy.
It said the practice violated the right of parents to educate their children as they saw fit, and ran counter to the child's right to freedom of religion.
The case was brought by an Italian mother, Soile Lautsi, who wants to give her children a secular education.
The Vatican said it was shocked by the ruling, calling it "wrong and myopic" to exclude the crucifix from education.
The ruling has sparked anger in the largely Catholic country, with one politician calling the move "shameful".
The Strasbourg court found that: "The compulsory display of a symbol of a given confession in premises used by the public authorities... restricted the right of parents to educate their children in conformity with their convictions."
It also restricted the "right of children to believe or not to believe", the seven judges ruling on the case said in a statement quoted by AFP news agency.
European identity
Mrs Lautsi complained to the European court that her children had to attend a public school in northern Italy that had crucifixes in every room.
She was awarded 5,000 euros ($7,400; £4,500) in damages.
Vatican spokesman the Rev Federico Lombardi said the European court had no right intervening in such a profoundly Italian matter, the Associated Press reported.
"It seems as if the court wanted to ignore the role of Christianity in forming Europe's identity, which was and remains essential."
He told Italian TV: "The crucifix has always been a sign of God's love, unity and hospitality to all humanity.
"It is unpleasant that it is considered a sign of division, exclusion or a restriction of freedom."
'Italian tradition'
Many politicians in Italy have reacted angrily.
Education Minister Mariastella Gelmini said the crucifix was a "symbol of our tradition", and not a mark of Catholicism.
One government minister called the ruling "shameful", while another said that Europe was forgetting its Christian heritage.
The government says it will appeal against the decision.
The BBC's Duncan Kennedy in Rome says that it is customary in Italy to see crucifixes in public buildings, including schools, despite the constitution saying that there should be a separation of church and state.
The law requiring crucifixes to be hung in schools dates back to the 1920s.
Although a revised accord between the Vatican and the Italian government ended Catholicism's position as the state religion in 1984, the crucifix law has never been repealed.
Some conservatives have already complained about schools dropping nativity plays to avoid upsetting Muslim children.

So over the years the government and it's education system has kicked God out of schools and off of government property. This leaves people think it is just being neutral but the effect is that atheist gain power. The devil won a great victory but he remains out of the picture. As always he works under the cover of darkness. There has been a big rise in crime in our society.Crime used to be considered evil. But no more.It is because citizen have guns available.A lot of the crime is drug related. So the answer suggested by the liberals is to make the drugs legal the government agents the drug pushers. The taxpayers pay for the drugs ofcourse. All this is the work of highly educated people.Educated people who want to be god.Educated people are great talkers,As was the conman in the garden of Eden.He told Eve.You can also be god.

Marxist,Atheist and educated idiots often ask.Which God are you talking about? There are several Gods.See? They don't believe in a god but there are several. As if they want to imply I have no idea which is my God.I know. That is what counts and not their opinions. So they say there is no proof.I say I have faith. Then they say that faith is nothing they depend on.Often they have a pocket full of dollars that the value of is a matter of faith. One morning a dollar can be worth less than the paper it was printed on.Confederate or South Vietnamese dollars were worth a lot more in the past than they are now.People lost faith in the value.

Maybe we should invite the Chinese government over to clean up our country? ========================================= BBC NEWS
Chinese crime 'Godmother' jailed
A woman described as the "Godmother" of the criminal underworld in the Chinese city of Chongqing has been sentenced to 18 years in jail and a large fine.
The court said Xie Caiping, 46, ran gambling dens, protected drug users and bribed police to turn a blind eye.
Claims in court that she had kept 16 young lovers helped to fuel huge public interest in the trial.
Hundreds of people have been arrested in Chongqing in recent months in a sweeping crackdown on criminal gangs.
Among them was Wen Qiang, Xie's brother-in-law and the former head of the judiciary, who was arrested in August on serious corruption charges.
Xie was accused of heading a gang that ran illegal gambling dens in nightclubs and casinos, illegally locking people up, harbouring drug users and running protection rackets, while bribing police in the southern city.
She is reported to have earned more than 2 million yuan ($292,000: £179,000) from her criminal activities and was fined 1.02 million yuan in addition to her jail term.
Another 21 people were sentenced with her, to between one and 13 years in prison.
The court said the gang had "severely broke the normal order of society", the Associated Press news agency reported.
The gang and corruption crackdown in Chongqing has been running since June and has seen the arrest of several high-profile official figures, including at least six district police chiefs.
Six people have already been sentenced to death for murder and blackmail.
Xie's brother-in-law, Mr Wen, will be prosecuted later this month on charges including rape, money laundering, bribery and illegal money lending.
The BBC's Chris Hogg in Shanghai said the media have been allowed to cover the Chongqing trials in detail to highlight that no-one is above the law.
But the details emerging have revealed just how corrupt the city of 30 million people is, our correspondent adds.

Greek Church acts on crucifix ban
By Malcolm Brabant
BBC News, Athens
The Greek Orthodox Church is urging Christians across Europe to unite in an appeal against a ban on crucifixes in classrooms in Italy.
The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg ruled last week that the presence of crucifixes violated a child's right to freedom of religion.
Greece's Orthodox Church fears the Italian case will set a precedent.
It has called an emergency Holy Synod meeting for next week to devise an action plan.
Although the Greek Orthodox Church has been at odds with Roman Catholicism for 1,000 years, the judicial threat to Christian symbols has acted as a unifying force.
The European Court of Human Rights found that the compulsory display of crucifixes violated parents' rights to educate their children as they saw fit and restricted the right of children to believe or not to believe.
'Worthy symbols'
The head of the Greek Church, Archbishop Ieronymos, shares Catholic complaints that the court is ignoring the role of Christianity in forming Europe's identity.
It is not only minorities that have rights but majorities as well, said the archbishop.
One of his subordinates, Bishop Nicholas from central Greece, lamented that at this rate youngsters will not have any worthy symbols at all to inspire and protect them.
Football and pop idols are very poor substitutes, he said.
The Greek Church has ostensibly intervened in this case in response to an appeal by a Greek mother whose son is studying in Italy.
But without doubt it is concerned that its omnipotence in Greece is under threat.
A human rights group called Helsinki Monitor is seeking to use the Italian case as a precedent.
It has demanded that Greek courts remove icons of Jesus Christ from above the judge's bench and that the gospel no longer be used for swearing oaths in the witness box.
Helsinki Monitor is urging trade unions to challenge the presence of religious symbols in Greek schools.
The socialist government here is also considering imposing new taxes on the Church's vast fortune, but at the same time is urging it to do more to help immigrants and poor Greeks.

I guess about 90 percent of the politicians recommend something other than God's existence. Recent surveys show that the people rate politicians at about the same level as used car dealers.

My calendar says 2009.Scientist and educated idiots will argue about it but I find it to be close enough to mark the time of Jesus Christ of about 2000 years ago.Scientist can pick up a rock on the ground and put a meter on it and tell us it is two million years old. They can find a bone in a cave in Africa or Switzerland and inform us it is some kind of animal that walked the Earth one million years ago.Tell us what it ate,Why it became extinct and show pictures of how it looked. Most governments require that our children believe the scientist who deny there is a god.Over the years God has gotten a bad reputation with governments. But we can examine the history of governments fairly easy. Those who win wars are able to report on themselves as they control those who write history.Still,Governments have a bad reputation. About 2000 years ago there was a government where Israel is now.A more powerful government based in Rome decided to end the rebellion against them in Jerusalem. So at the cost of thousands of lives the Jews were expelled from Jerusalem.About 100 years before that Jesus told the people of Jerusalem they were going to get clobbered. I guess they believed their government.

V. Rome and the Jews.
1. Judea under Roman Procurators and Governors:
Judaea became a part of the province of Syria in 63 B.C. (Josephus, BJ, vii, 7), and Hyrcanus, brother of the last king, remained as high priest (archiereus kai ethnarches; Josephus, Ant, XIV, iv, 4) invested with judicial as well as sacerdotal functions. But Antony and Octavius gave Palestine (40 B.C.) as a kingdom to Herod, surnamed the Great, although his rule did not become effective until 3 years later. His sovereignty was upheld by a Roman legion stationed at Jerusalem (Josephus, Ant, XV, iii, 7), and he was obliged to pay tribute to the Roman government and provide auxiliaries for the Roman army (Appian, Bell. Civ., v.75). Herod built Caesarea in honor of Augustus (Josephus, Ant, XV, ix, 6), and the Roman procurators later made it the seat of government. At his death in 4 B.C. the kingdom was divided between his three surviving sons, the largest portion falling to Archelaus, who ruled Judea, Samaria and Idumaea with the title ethnarches (Josephus, Ant, XVII, xi, 4) until 6 A.D., when he was deposed and his realm reduced to the position of a province. The administration by Roman procurators (see PROCURATOR), which was now established, was interrupted during the period 41-44 A.D., when royal authority was exercised by Herod Agrippa, grandson of Herod the Great, over the lands which had been embraced in the kingdom of his grandfather (Josephus, Ant, XIX, viii, 2), and, after 53 A.D., Agrippa II ruled a considerable part of Palestine (Josephus, Ant, XX, vii, 1; viii, 4).
After the fall of Jerusalem and the termination of the great revolt in 70 A.D., Palestine remained a separate province. Henceforth a legion (legio X Fretensis) was added to the military forces stationed in the land, which was encamped at the ruins of Jerusalem. Consequently, imperial governors of praetorian rank (legati Augusti pro praetore) took the place of the former procurators (Josephus, BJ, VII, i, 2, 3; Dio Cassius lv.23).
Several treaties are recorded between the Romans and Jews as early as the time of the Maccabees (Josephus, Ant, XII, x, 6; XIII, ix, 2; viii, 5), and Jews are known to have been at Rome as early as 138 B.C. They became very numerous in the capital after the return of Pompey who brought back many captives (see LIBERTINES). Cicero speaks of multitudes of Jews at Rome in 58 B.C. (Pro Flacco 2 , and Caesar was very friendly toward them (Suetonius Caesar 84). Held in favor by Augustus, they recovered the privilege of collecting sums to send to the temple (Philo Legatio ad Caium 40). Agrippa offered 100 oxen in the temple when visiting Herod (Josephus, Ant, XVI, ii, 1), and Augustus established a daily offering of a bull and two lambs. Upon the whole the Roman government displayed noticeable consideration for the religious scruples of the Jews. They were exempted from military service and the duty of appearing in court on the Sabbath. Yet Tiberius repressed Jewish rites in Rome in 19 A.D. (Suetonius Tiberius 36) and Claudius expelled the Jews from the city in 49 A.D. (Suetonius Claudius 25); but in both instances repression was not of long duration.
2. Jewish Proselytism:
The Jews made themselves notorious in Rome in propagating their religion by means of proselytizing (Horace Satires i.4, 142; i.9, 69; Juvenal xiv0.96; Tacitus Hist. v. 5), and the literature of the Augustan age contains several references to the observation of the Sabbath (Tibullus i0.3; Ovid Ars amatoria i.67, 415; Remedium amoris 219). Proselytes from among the Gentiles were not always required to observe all the prescriptions of the Law. The proselytes of the Gate (sebomenoi), as they were called, renounced idolatry and serious moral abuses and abstained from the blood and meat of suffocated animals. Among such proselytes may be included the centurion of Capernaum (Luke 7:5), the centurion Cornelius (Acts 10:1), and the empress Poppea (Josephus, Ant, XX, viii, 11; Tacitus Ann. xvi.6).
On "proselytes of the Gate," GJV4, III, 177, very properly corrects the error in HJP. These "Gate" people were not proselytes at all; they refused to take the final step that carried them into Judaism-namely, circumcision (Ramsay, The Expositor, 1896, p. 200; Harnack, Expansion of Christianity, I, 11).
SeeDEVOUT; PROSELYTE.
Notwithstanding the diffusion of Judaism by means of proselytism, the Jews themselves lived for the most part in isolation in the poorest parts of the city or suburbs, across the Tiber, near the Circus Maximus, or outside the Porta Capena. Inscriptions show that there were seven communities, each with its synagogue and council of elders presided over by a gerusiarch. Five cemeteries have been discovered with many Greek, a few Latin, but no Hebrew inscriptions.

Can you imagine these people who claim to be the smartest men alive are upset that just average people make them secondary to god? When smart folks tell us they are smart we should worship them for their great knowledge. They use government regulations to force the children to worship them. They are in conspiracy with governments.Recently the global warming smart guys were hacked. This exposed the fraud they were committing. But government leaders ran to their rescue .WHY? MONEY. POWER and fame is involved. So we are supposed to bow down and worship these fakers? There are a lot of people helping them cover up their scams.Even average people are not fooled. This makes the smart guys worry.

I have noticed all these shysters and fakers being exposed before the public in recent months. Then the scams of CEOs ,(OVERPAID CEOs) Being forced to beg for tax dollars to remain in business. All the Wall Street scandals being brought to light. They being connected to corrupt politicians who have sold out the working people. It is all coming out.The fakers are being exposed one after another. The media who used to put a lid on those things has lost the power to cover things up.So I look up and thank Jesus .Why? Because they all hate Jesus. Evidently that shows he is on our side.

It will soon be 25 December. Where we in this country celebrate the birth of a poor man who was born about 2000 years ago. No one person has ever had such a great effect on the people of this world. No one man has ever done more to make this a better world. He has had the same enemies as he had the day he was born. But they just change their names each generation. They want total power but find that not all the people will bow to power just because the powerful have money and weapons.

<< 1 John 1 >>
King James Bible
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) 3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. |
